Placido Domingo stars in a film to help children with cancer

New York, Oct 10 (EFE).- At 77, Placido Domingo is the star of the upcoming comedy “Los Rodriguez y el Mas Alla,” a film whose proceeds will go to helping children with cancer.

Domingo – who has just finished shooting the film in New York – told EFE that he did not hesitate for a second to participate in the film when director Paco Arango told him about the charity involved.

“Paco Arango got in touch with me and explained that the main reason why he makes cinema is his great altruism, his interest in helping children and teens and those who have been dealt a bad hand since they were born,” the tenor said.

The film also features the likes of Geraldine Chaplin, as well as Edu Soto, Santiago Segura, Rossy de Palma, Mariana Treviño and Omar Chaparro.

“It is a comedy that will travel the world with a very important purpose, which is – other than to make people laugh – to help fight child cancer around the world,” Arango, whose last movie “The Healer”raised $4 million to help children with the disease, said.

The film tells the story of the Rodriguez family, whose life takes a turn when they discover that their late grandfather is really from another planet, leaving a cosmic gate at home through which to access his world.

Chaos ensues as the family tries to get used to their newfound uncontrollable superhuman powers, all while attempting to go back home form “the beyond.”

The sc-fi comedy is funded by Spanish state-owned television station RTVE.
