Beatriz Pérez Ruiz nació el 31 de Julio de 1881 en San Diego, fue bautizada el 17 de noviembre de 1883, según consta en su acta bautismal. Cuando la fotografié, en 1986, ella era una de las hispanas más anciana en los Estados Unidos.
Beatriz tuvo dos hijas: Josephine Contreras y Angelina Quiroga. En 1891, Beatriz fue llevada por su familia a Phoenix, viaje que realizaron en una carreta cubierta y que demoró un mes en completarse.
En 1919 regresó a Los Ángeles con su esposo y vivió allí por un año, cambiándose luego en Canoga Park en 1920, donde él hacía fardos de heno, a la vez que ella cocinaba para los trabajadores, quienes vivían en trailers. Beatriz Pérez Ruiz born July 31, 1881 in San Diego was baptized November 17, 1883. She was one of the oldest living Hispanics in the United States at the time when I photographed her on 1986. She had two daughters, Josephine Contreras and Angelina Quiroga.
In 1891 her family took Beatriz to Phoenix by covered wagon the move took one month to complete. In 1919, they moved to Los Angeles for one year, then Canoga Park in 1920, where her husband made bales of hay, and she cooked for the bailing workers who stayed on the trailers. Angelina Quiroga nació el 2 de octubre de 1911. Mientras Angie se dedicaba a last tareas del hogar y su hermana trabajaba en una fábrica enlatadora, su madre Beatriz, mantenía todo en orden. El primer esposo de Angie falleció prematuramente a la edad de treinta y dos años. Para ese entonces tenía tres hijos, el menor de tres años de edad. Cuando se segundo esposo falleció, Angie comenzó a participar activamente en la comunidad, ayudando a Ramona Sariñana en el Club Libertad, luego obtuvo un trabajo en el programa de nutrición y sirvió como recepcionista en el Eastside Senior Citizens Center. Laboró por dos años, pero tuvo que retirarse debido a los cuidados constants que demandaba el estado de salud de su madre, Beatriz.

Angelina Quiroga was born October 2, 1911. While Angie did housework and her sister worked in the cannery, her mother Beatriz kept their home functioning. Angie’s first husband was killed at age thirty-two; he was a high-tension wire worker. They had three children by then, the youngest was three years old. In order to support her family, Angie went to work in a cannery. Later she remarried. Her second husband of Spanish descent was from Durango, Mexico. Both loved to go dancing.
When her second husband died, she became active with Ramona Sariñana, helping her in Club Libertad, later getting a job in the Nutrition Program and serving as a receptionist at the Eastside Senior Citizens Center. She did this for two years, but had to curtail her steady work at the Center because of the increasing health care needs of her aging mother, Beatriz. © La Oferta Newspaper.
