So, how does it work? Top Shelf has put together a fantastic song list of the most popular big band vocal numbers. Folks interested in singing can check out the list on their webpage here. The list includes links to recordings that are close to the arrangements that the band will be playing, so people can check which songs are in their key and the tempo and practice in advance if they want. On the night of the show, the band will take sign ups from anyone who wants to sing starting at 7pm. With three sets of music throughout the night, the show will feature 24-30 guest singers trying their skills at the mic. Once called up, singers will be provided with a microphone, hard copy sheet music and an on screen teleprompter. The band will help cue singers for all their vocal entrances.
Top Shelf Big Band is a seventeen-piece big band in the South San Francisco Bay Area. This intimate and unique venue brings a touch of Manhattan to the South Bay with its rustic yet edgy feel. Old brick walls, plush leather seats, antique wood plank floors, sweeping red velvet drapes and a 35-foot mahogany bar create a casual cabaret atmosphere.
