MACLA presents Ghostly Labor by Vanessa Sanchez & La Mezcla

San José, CA – February 15, 2024 – MACLA, Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana, proudly announces the forthcoming presentation of Ghostly Labor by Vanessa Sanchez and La Mezcla. This high energy, captivating performance will take place on March 21 and March 22, 2024, at 7 PM at Hammer Theater, located at 101 Paseo de San Antonio, San José, CA 95113.

As part of MACLA’s dedication to supporting contemporary Latinx artists, MACLA has served as a co-commissioner for Ghostly Labor. This multidisciplinary production delves into the intricate history of labor in the US-Mexico borderlands, utilizing a mesmerizing blend of Tap Dance, Mexican Zapateado, Afro Caribbean movement, live music, and animated archival video to offer audiences a profound exploration of the voices and experiences of domestic and farm workers in California.

Vanessa Sanchez, a San José native and renowned Chicana-Native dancer, choreographer, and educator, brings her internationally acclaimed talent back to her hometown with Ghostly

Labor. As a recipient of the Isadora Duncan Award for Outstanding Production and a 2019 Dance/USA Artist Fellow, Sanchez’s work transcends boundaries, sparking conversations surrounding Latinx art and culture on both local and national levels.

Teaming up with La Mezcla, a San Francisco-based dance and music company driven by womxn, Sanchez and her ensemble bring the often-overlooked histories and experiences of communities of color to stages and streets alike.
