Teatro Nahual will presents “Two Husbands for Enriqueta”

San Jose, CA agosto 7, 2025 – Now more than ever, it is essential to present theater in Spanish and provide a moment of relaxation and mental healing, especially during this period of political and social tension related to immigration issues and the emotional devastation generated by this presidential administration in California.

This year, Teatro Nahual is proud to present the world premiere of “Two Husbands for Enriqueta,” based on the classic play, “The Wise Women,” by French playwright Molière. This comedy ridicules the intellectual pedantry and hypocrisy of 17th-century French society. However, the adaptation is based in Mexico City at the end of the 19th century. In this super comedy, through humor and sarcasm, Molière criticizes false intellectualism and the pretense of cultural superiority, while defending a more balanced and authentic vision of knowledge and life in society. The talented actors of Teatro Nahual will have the audience laughing, and perhaps, they will identify with some of the characters, which is purely coincidental.

Teatro Nahual invites you to enjoy performances by excellent local actors: Alberto Arias, Abraham Mijangos, Luis Nicolás, Umbelina Martínez, Gregorio Montes, Victoria Valencia, Grace Grullón, Nora Meléndez, John Cabrera, Josefina López, and Charly Olguín—music by maestro Isidro Jiménez, set design by Frances Kao, and artistic direction by Verónica Meza. The comedy, “Dos maridos pa’ Enriqueta,” will premiere on Saturday, October 4th at 7:30 p.m., including a reception for the audience. A matinee will follow on Sunday, October 5th at 2:00 p.m. at the Second Stage at Mountain View for the Performing Arts in downtown Mountain View, CA. Additional performances will follow on Saturdays, October 11th, 18th, and 25th at 7:30 p.m. at MACLA in San Jose, CA. Tickets for the October 4 and 5 performances in Mountain View are available online: https://tickets.mvcpa.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=688 or at the theater door. Tickets for the MACLA performances in San José on Saturday, October 11, 18, and 25 can be purchased here: https://www.teatronahual.org or at the theater door.

Verónica Meza, the founder and artistic director of Teatro Nahual, has been an active witness to the social, political, and educational events and transitions in our Latino community for twenty-two years. Through theater, Verónica has provided a platform for expression to hundreds of local actors and artists who have taken part in Spanish-language acting classes and have explored their creativity and talent through the theatrical activities offered by this community theater.

Since 2003, Teatro Nahual has been a pioneer in consistently presenting Spanish-language theater, giving voice to our Latino community through plays such as “La otra cara del indio” (The Other Face of the Indian), which exposes corruption among local authorities and questions the obsession with earning foreign currency at the expense of one’s own culture. “Huelga sin palitos” (Strike Without Sticks) blends comedy, music, and traditional Greek dance, encouraging audience participation and reflection on power, peace, and equality. “The Vagina Monologues” is a call for peace and a stand against femicide and violence against women. “Malinche Show” is a production that combines satire, music, and historical drama to reconsider the legacy of La Malinche. Through humor, it highlights how individuals and societies face the conflict between belonging and preserving their roots or giving in to the pressures of modernity.

Teatro Nahual has also presented numerous theatrical works, with a special emphasis on children’s and school theater, directly engaging Spanish bilingual schools.
