A Toast to Non-Alcoholic Beverages in San Francisco

By Lina Broydo

“The alcohol industry has totally been disrupted as the pendulum swings toward wellness, and they are not getting their previously guaranteed new customers because Generation Z is ditching the booze” – declares Joshua James, owner of the “Ocean Beach Cafe” in San Francisco. “Now it’s cool and trending to hold a non-alcoholic beer or cocktail in your hand. And bars and restaurants are putting desirable adult choices on their menu.”

Joshua, a bartender with over 20 years of experience, decided to take a year off drinking alcohol and see what would happen to his day to day activities.”That one change made me very productive and for the first time in my life I discovered I was more energetic and could accomplish and finish projects I planned to do. I could also have a good time.”  With this new outlook on life Joshua James decided to open the Ocean Beach Cafe, a non-alcoholic bar and casual restaurant in the Outer Richmond district of San Francisco.

The Beach Cafe became a magnet for local dignitaries including the Honorary Mayor of San Francsico Daniel Lurie as well as the Golden State Warriors who are frequent visitors in joining the community in various activities around the neighborhood. Located within a short walk distance to the beautiful Ocean Beach located by the Great Highway and its stunning promenade, Joshua James initiated a number of the community projects with the local volunteers. The activities include: cleaning the beach, lunch, and drinks (non-alcoholic of course!)

From the menu James recommends trying his Aplos Champagne Sour Cocktail made with Aplos Adaptogenic Elixir, Sparkling Brute with bitter orange and lime. As for me: I take my two dogs Kona and Scout on a prolonged early morning walk on the beach along the gorgeous Pacific Ocean and stop over at The Beach Cafe for a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a warm delicious croissant. Wish they had some organic treats for my favorite doggies. Little fresh carrots will work.

Yes, life is good. Cheers Joshua!
