SF Ballet Presents The Dazzling “Eugene Onegin”

By Lina Broydo

Lucky me! I saw “Eugene Onegin” yesterday. Absolutely mesmerizing production!

From the innovative and brilliant choreography by Yuri Possokhov to the beautiful music (very  interesting composition by the extremely talented Ilya Demutsky, with Peter Tchaikovsky’s and Leonard Bernstein’s music undertones; visually stunning staging, gorgeous costumes by Tim Yip, sets and high tech brilliance of the effects by Tom Pye and Jim French – make it a breathtaking ballet.

The superbly trained dancers also had fun. Yuri definitely showcased the male dancers (it’s about time!) and Joseph Walsh was magnificent as Onegin: not only dancing but acting as well.

I must admit: the SF Ballet Artistic Director Tamara Rojo rejuvenated this company to the max! Bravo to all!! Pushkin would be pleased.
