Three exceptional Latin ensembles—Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles, Ballet Folklórico Nueva Antequera and Filarmónica Maqueos Music will join forces to illuminate the richness of Mexican traditions and music. Enjoy the lively regional music while experiencing the vibrant tapestry of their collective heritage.

San Jose Symphony Presents Jon Nakamatsu & All That Jazz
October 5, at 7:30 p.m. and October 6, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.
“The Roaring 20s” inaugurate Symphony San Jose 2024/2025 season by featuring Jon Nakamatsu, the brilliant pianist and the Gold Medal Winner of the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in his interpretation of the George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024.) Jon Nakamatsu will also perform Aaron Copland’s jazzy, blues-inspired Piano Concerto.
The concert opens and closes with two of the most famous pieces in the orchestral repertoire: George Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Maurice Ravel’s Boléro under the baton of conductor Elinor Reufeizen.
Season-opening events include a pre-show Prohibition Party with dinner, cocktails, and dancing. Live jazz and an after-concert dessert reception with musicians and guest artists. Note: The Pre-concert festivities at the theater occur one hour prior to the concert.

Tamara de Lempicka Exhibit at the de Young Museum
October 12, 2024 through February 9, 2025
Glamor. Freedom. Mystery. The Bay Area is trembling with excitement as the news of a major figure of the Art Deco movement, Tamara de Lempicka’s paintings are on their way to the de Young Museum. Recognized today as one of the preeminent portrait painters of her time, known as the Queen of Art Deco, who combined the classical figural style of the European pictorial tradition with the modern energy of the international avant-gardes.
Through her own liberal lifestyle and bold pictorial technique, Lempicka captured the confidence, glamor and effervescence of interwar Paris as well as the cool cosmopolitan sheen of Hollywood celebrity.
The first major museum retrospective of Lempicka in the US, Tamara de Lempicka explores the artist’s seductive style and fearless way of life with approximately 100 works, including the paintings that first brought Lempicka fame, and the drawings revealing a deliberate design process. I can’t wait to see it!
