Tabard Theatre announces Joe Warner Trio featuring Ron E. Beck

San Jose, CA  April 12, 2023—Tabard Theatre announces Joe Warner Trio performing jazz, blues, funk, and beyond, promising familiar favorites, hardcore grooves, and thrilling improvisations. This multigenerational group features Joe Warner on keys, San Jose legend Ron E. Beck  (Tower of Power, Bill Withers) on drums and vocals and Billy Edwards on bass for an electric evening of music.  Tickets for Joe Warner Trio are available for in-person and livestream attendees on Friday, April 21. Doors at 7pm, show starts at 8pm. General Admission is $20 or select reserved cabaret seating for $30. For those unable to enjoy the show live that night, the high-quality recording will be available as an on-demand purchase for one month following the show.

Pianist Joe Warner is one of the Bay Area’s brightest young talents, quickly gaining recognition for his compelling style and exceptional performances. He is Pianist and Musical Director for The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol, leads the Joe Warner Trio, and has also performed or recorded with Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, Buster Williams, Gary Bartz, Azar Lawrence, Mistah F.A.B., Mary Stallings, Steve Turre, Robert Randolph, Kenny Washington, Marcus Shelby Orchestra, Ralph Moore, Johnny Talbot, Stephanie Crawford, Elena Pinderhughes, Roy McCurdy, Marvin ‘Smitty’ Smith, Lenny White, Casey Benjamin, Dennis Chambers, Bernard Purdie, The California Honeydrops, Willie Jones III, Jules Broussard, Freddie Hughes, Derick Hughes, Martin Luther, John Santos, Oakland Symphony, Rickey Woodard, John Handy, Valerie Troutt, and Denise Perrier, among others.

Drummer & vocalist Ron E. Beck was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. At age eighteen, after reaching the top of the Omaha music scene Beck decided to go west along with his twin brother Don E. The brothers followed their mentors Buddie Miles, Herbie Rich, and Stemsie Hunter to the West Coast, all of whom had just joined Michael Bloomfield’s Electric Flag. Since 1971 Beck has been established and welcomed by the Oakland and San Jose music scenes. Beck currently resides in the Bay Area. From 1975 through 1978 Beck toured and recorded with the highly acclaimed group Tower of Power. He has also performed and recorded with Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., Bobby Womack, John Lee Hooker, Bell & James, Robbie Nevil, Sylvester and 2 Tons of Fun, Bill Withers, Clifford Coulter, Lydia Pense, Sista Monica, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Fred Wesley, Chester Thompson, and Merl Saunders.

Known primarily as a funky drummer, Ron E. is also an accomplished singer whose vocal style has been praised by such notables as Tom Bell, Carlos Santana, Steve Cropper and Wallace ‘Scotty’ Scott of the Whispers. While performing with the popular Bay Area R&B-fusion group Spang-A-Lang from 1981 through 1986, Beck was known for bringing the crowd to their feet screaming when he would sing such songs as Bobby Womack’s ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ and Prince’s ‘Purple Rain.’

Tabard Theatre (formerly Theatre on San Pedro Square) — San Jose’s “Hidden Gem” venue for the performing arts—  is located in the heart of historic San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose amid a bustling restaurant district.  This intimate and unique venue brings a touch of Manhattan to the South Bay with its rustic yet edgy feel. Old brick walls, plush leather seats, antique wood plank floors, sweeping red velvet drapes and a 35-foot mahogany bar create a casual cabaret atmosphere. The three-quarter round cabaret stage— described by artists as “a room that feels big and small at the same time” — is the perfect setting for live music and theatre.
